Wood bees can wreak havoc in short order on a home or structure. Besides the sheer aggravation of little sawdust piles left on the porch stoop, wood bees can destroy your investment one borough at a time. We have seen and heard of hundreds of remedies. The best one yet is, “burn the house down!” While it may be effective, there is a better way!
The best step is prevention. In the spring of every year, we use a product called NBS 30 on our own home. It is made of natural oils and it forms a barrier on the surface of the logs that bugs won’t pass through. We have had wood bees flying around our log cabin, sprayed this on the wood and watched them desert their efforts. It isn’t a miracle but a deterrent. We can apply this solution into stain for easy application.
If your wood structure already suffers the consequences of wood bees, then we ream out the wood bee tunnels and apply a powdered insect killer. The dust gets into the wood bees wings, and the bees carry the powder back to the other bees and kill the entire colony of bees.
